Further Clarification on Q 121

Sudhakar Tripathi says, "Human body resistance is around 1 mega ohm."
He further says, "Sir Parveen Sharma has quoted example of NCERT book. But Sir, According to what we had read in our engineering books (I am basically an electric engineer) and also according to IEEE, it is one mega ohm. Sir, Please clear it why NCERT Book has made that blunder regarding you."

Dear Sudhakar Tripathi
Well, you have yourself written that it is around 1 mega ohm. This is what can be ascertained in a laboratory condition. Secondly, the resistance depends upon the dryness of the body of a person, the silkiness of the skin and the height of the person. These factors show the result upto one mega ohm.

For an average height person, it tends to move from 4x10 raise to the power 4 to One mega ohm or 1000 k ohm or 10 raised to power 6 is the maximum limit which can be proved in laboratory condition. The range of the figures that can be achieved as explained by my colleague Prof. Parveen Sharma.

Further, all the IEEE help books provide the same answer after explaining what you are contending.

If you remember that earlier I have also pointed one mega ohm as the correct answer. This answer was provided by Chandramohan who is also an engineer and doing Mtech at Banglore. They are nearly a group of five boys who had taken this examination. It is only Chandramohan who had not taken this examination. These boys were also doubtful that whether it is 10 raised to power 4 or one mega ohm. He had given me both the answers. It was after discussing with him that I had marked one mega ohm but showed my doubts to which you have responded.

I have changed the answer only after you raised the pointer. By that time, I had discussed with some other boys also. They had pointed out the average value is 10 raised to power 4. Secondly, the answer level is that of average person and general value. Hence, it was changed when I saw the same question as it appears in NCERT book and you have just by chance pointed out that very question. The group from which I have procured this paper is getting correct answers in the range of 80 to 90. This is disheartening them. There is every possibility that the 10 raise to power 4 will be taken as the correct answer. This is as per what is suggested in the syllabus, science as a general educated person is suppose to understand.

Kindly also note, in NCERT, they have not given the solution. They have just suggested the question. It was when I insisted with my colleague that he should show me some book in which it is written, he has directed by attention to the Pardeep’s publication.

Friend, the main issue is whether one is going to get more than 90 questions correct in this paper. If you look into other questions, especially the oldest stock exchange, there is ambiguity in that question. Similarly, there are nearly fourteen questions about which there is ambiguity. It happens in case of MCQs. If one expects to get utpo 90 correct answers in GS and similarly 90 + in his elective subject, then he or she may start preparing for the Mains. The result will be out only in the third week of June which sometimes come by the first week of July even. In between you may have lost already two months. The October month is then hardly three months away. Therefore, it should be guiding principle.

Now, May I take the liberty in asking you to look into other mathematics based questions. Rest of the questions, like basic biology and geography will be soon authenticated by me. I hope that I am not impinging on your time.
I hope this may settle your doubt. Let us move to some other questions. You have done a perfect job by identifying one mistake. It was an inadvertent mistake. Any how, I am thankful to you.

Just one more thing. I am a lecturer of History. (Now DO NOT jeer at that.) I enjoy reading. Presently I am concentrating on completing one book. I have already explained the motive of creating this blog. No doubt, one should not give wrong information. I myself am totally against it. But, let us concentrate on getting near to the right answers and move towards other topics and issues also. I am not running away but your query has taken over whole my day. I am residing in rural area away from libraries and friends. If I have to recheck some information I have to travel nearly 17 kilometers if I am not successful in digging it out on the net. Any how, it all beside the actual talk.
Kindly remain in touch.

Clarification and Correction to the answer to Q 114

Sudhakar Tripathi Says:
see q-114 correct answer is d not a. there are 628 member in parliament of russia. 450 member is in state duma(lower house). 178 member are in federation council that is upper house not lower. so ans d is correctnot a. plz clarify it.

Dear Sudhakar Tripathi,
First of all thanks once again.
I feel obliged. You have helped me to correct my mistake. You are correct and I am wrong.
Kindly find below some details.
Your are right. The Answer to the question is d, that is 1 only is correct. That is, The Parliament of Russia is called Federal Assembly.

Authentication/Validation/Verification/Argument

Russian government:

State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation

ADDRESS
Russian Federation 103265, Moscow Okhotnyi Riad, 1 ("old" building)Russian Federation 103265, Moscow Georgievskii Pereulok, 2 ("new" building)
TELEPHONE Information: 292-80-00; Reception: 202-91-63; Press-center: 292-83-10.

Website: http://www.duma.gov.ru

However the above site is in Russian language.

STATUS
The State Duma is the lower house of the Federal Assembly, the parliament of the Russian Federation. The first Duma elections took place on 12 December 1993, simultaneously with the adoption of the new Constitution.
The Duma is elected for four years, but may be dismissed by the President under conditions stipulated in the Constitution.

HISTORY
Elections to the first convocation of the State Duma were set by presidential decree No.1400 of 21 September 1993, that dissolved the Congress of People’s Deputies and Supreme Soviet. As an exception contained in the transitional provisions of the Constitution, the first convocation was elected for a two year term. The first convocation was elected on 12 December 1993, held its first plenary session on 11 January 1993, and met for the last time on 22 December 1995. Ivan P.Rybkin served as the first Chairman of the Duma, from 14 January 1994 to 17 January 1996. Gennadii N.Seleznev has served as Chairman since 17 January 1996.
The Duma’s four year term runs out on 17 December 1999, but the Duma retains its powers until the next convocation begins work. If the Duma is not dismissed early, the next convocation should be elected on 19 December 1999 and begin work 18 January 2000.
Unofficially, the First Duma convocation was also called "the fifth State Duma", hearkening to the Tsarist era institutions that existed from 1906-1917. The current Duma is occasionally referred to as the "sixth Duma".

POWERS
The basic powers of the State Duma are listed in article 103 of the Constitution. The first Convocation of the Duma decided not to adopt a law on its status as the successor to the Congress of People’s Deputies. Instead, it gradually established its powers by adopting federal laws based on the new Constitution. The Duma requires 226 votes for the adoption of normative acts, except in cases when the Constitution requires a 2/3 or 3/5 quorum.

Legislative:
The State Duma adopts federal laws, federal constitutional laws, and constitutional amendments. These come into force after approval by the Federation Council, signature by the President, and publication. Federal laws are adopted by a simple majority (226 votes). Federal constitutional laws and constitutional amendments require a 2/3 majority (300 votes). A 2/3 majority is also required to override a presidential or Federation Council veto.
Source: http://www.cityline.ru/politika/e/fs/gd.html

Hence as on today, State Duma is the lower house of the Federal Assembly of Russia.
The Federal Assembly of Russia can be equated to Parliament of Russia.
The Upper house is Federation of Council of Russia.
Further, as per the Article 95 of the Constitution of Russian Federation 1993, there are 450 members.

In addition to that the following facts are provided on the site:

"bicameral Federal Assembly or Federalnoye Sobraniye consists of the Federation Council or Sovet Federatsii (178 seats; as of July 2000, members appointed by the top executive and legislative officials in each of the 89 federal administrative units - oblasts, krays, republics, autonomous okrugs and oblasts, and the federal cities of Moscow and Saint Petersburg; members serve four-year terms) and the State Duma or Gosudarstvennaya Duma (450 seats; currently 225 seats elected by proportional representation from party lists winning at least 5% of the vote, and 225 seats from single-member constituencies; members are elected by direct, popular vote to serve four-year terms)"

The above information is updated upto May 17, 2005.

According to it, the Federal Assembly consists of Federal Assembly consisted of 178 members and Sate Duma consisted of 450 seats. State Duma is the lower house. Federation of Council is Upper House of Russia.
Hence the answer is d, 1 only.

General Studies Preliminary Paper May 15, 2005

First of all, thanks to SUDHAKAR TRIPATHI for attempting to give the answer to a pending question. He has suggested the following answer: RESITANCE OF HUMAN BODY IS ABOUT 1000000 OHM IN DRY STATE.

However, the answer is as follows:
121. What is the order of magnitude of electric resistance of human body (dry)?
(a) 102 ohm
(b) 104 ohm
(c) 106 ohm
(d)108 ohm

Ans: Pending (Is it c; 10 raise to power 6 ohm) (Answer As Given earlier)

Final Answer: It is b; 10x10x10x10 ohm

Authentication/Validation/Verification/Argument/Elaboration
A dry body has a resistance nearly 10 k ohm. In other words, it is 10 raised to power 4 ohms.
Further 1 ohm = 1 volt/1 ampere = 1V/1A
This question relates to Current Electricity Chapter of Physics of 10+2, C.B.S.E syllabus and the issue appears in a exercise of NCERT book question no 3.42 page 104 edition November 2003, Chapter 3 titled "Current Electricity". However, the answers can be had from other books which is referred below.

In addition to that, it may also interest the aspirants.
International Ohm ( S.I unit of resistance)
It is defined as the resistance of 106.3 cm long mercury column of 1 square mm cross-section area and mass 14.4521 gram at 0ยบ C.
A current of 0.01 A, that is 1/100 A is sufficient to send a shock in the body. A voltage of about 100 V is dangerous to health and 220 V may prove extremely fatal.
It further explained in the Chapter Current Electricity Unit 2 of Pardeep’s Fundamental Physics by Gomber and Gogia.
Answer provided by Prof. Parveen Sharma, Head of the Department of Physics, Arya College, Ludhiana.

With this all the "solutions and keys" are complete.
I apologize for taking seven days to post all the answers. There were two problems. First was the erratic supply of electricity in Punjab (and as it being reported that it is same in many other states. Why do all these expert not work as real experts?)and rising heat with every passing day.
Secondly, I am not expert in all the fields. I took help of some of my friends to get the answers. They just sent me the answers but not the explanation. It was only after getting it authenticated by some more friends that I have posted them. Therefore, it took time. However, it was mainly the electricity problem which hampered the work.
I am thankful to all those visitors who regularly visited to check the answers. I can learn from my site meter that there are nearly nine committed visitors. I can identify three of them who had just visited and logged out the movement they have found that there is no new posting. They had even visited my site twice in a single day. I apologize to them if I have disappointed them on some days, like I was away on May 25, 2005.

I am thankful to SUDHAKAR TRIPATHI who has contributed by providing answer to one of the question about which I have no idea.
I just wish that it would have been more fruitful exercise had some more people come out with some comments or point out any mistake.
As far as the Authentication aspect is concerned which is shown Pending at many places, I may be allowed to submit, that I will complete it gradually. This feature is being borrowed from the similar activities of teachers who are members at educationforum.iphost.com and related sites. The main idea is to use internet for study and with that idea to learn the exact information at the right and dependable site. As one of the members, Jean Walker, a teacher from Australia had commented that internet is not a panacea. You have to learn where the information is and secondly tell it to your students where it is. Another member, David Richardson had commented that it just another gizmo provided you make an effective and sensible use of it. Otherwise books are there and the same spirit, that is urge to study and work hard, is required here also. All these activities is a humble effort by a humble teacher for our country. ICT projects of UGC are there and the IIT students of different institutions are doing commendable job. Here, I am doing my bit with my available knowledge, resources and efforts.

The historic importance of these events is such that they are bound to give you questions in Mains. It seems that the source of material with the commission has good material on these topics. The students and as per general trend, the stress is mostly from 1857 onwards. However, the period between 1719 to 1818 or utpo 1857 has always given questions in the Mains and General Study papers.
Similarly, these portions have always give question in General studies. In this paper, there is one question on 1857 but more than three questions on the period identified above. This portion of history has also given questions in General Studies Mains Paper A, though the questions from the period 1885 to 1847 always come as it is already specified in the syllabus of General Studies Paper A of Mains. The relevant line of General Studies Paper A Mains syllabus is as follows: "The History of Modern India will cover history of the Country from about the middle of nineteenth century and would also include questions on important personalities who shaped the Freedom Movement and Social reforms."

However, the first stock exchange is as follows:
The world's first stock exchange was established in Antwerp, Belgium in 1460 under the rule of Philip the Good. The Antwerp exchange traded financial securities, primarily bonds. As it only dealt in bonds, hence, the question does not pertains to this exchange. It seems, the question is about an exchange wherein the scripts of equity shares are being sold and bought along with other financial instruments. But even then option 3 can not be called correct. Rest is with the Commission people.
